Event Description

Reflecting on an inspiring seminar on Cybersecurity, AI, and Governance
We had the privilege of welcoming Dr Mavis Ofe, AAISM, CISSP, CISM, AWS-SAP, PMP, CMMC for a high-impact seminar with our students from the Centre for Cybersecurity and Mathematical Cryptology.
Through powerful and thought-provoking examples, she challenged us with a critical question:
When an automated system makes an unfair decision… is it a cybersecurity issue or a governance failure?
The answer: today, it is often both.

This session helped clarify a common misconception: Cybersecurity is about protecting systems from attacks and Governance ensures that decisions are fair, accountable, and explainable.

In a world increasingly driven by artificial intelligence, understanding this distinction is essential. We must train professionals who are not only capable of securing systems, but also of taking responsibility for the decisions those systems make.

A special note of appreciation to Dr Mavis Ofe, AAISM, CISSP, CISM, AWS-SAP, PMP, CMMC; Dr. Thiery Tchassem ;Ofeh Herrmann; .
Despite her many responsibilities, she dedicated her time and that of her team to engage with and mentor our students. This level of commitment is no small sacrifice, but a truly meaningful investment in shaping the next generation.

Thank you as well to all participants for their engagement and insightful discussions.
